Endoscopic Study of Peptic Ulcer Patients


Abstract
We had a clinical analysis in 570 patients.
Who were diagnosed as peptic ulcer with gastrofiberscopy in DongGuk university. Pohang Hospital from Judy 1989 to June 1991.
The results obtained were as follows
1) Of the 570 cases with peptic ulcer, 301 cases(52.8%) were gastric ulcer, 218 cases(38.2%) were duodenal ulcer and others were pyloric channel ulcer in 23cases(4.1%), combined ulcer in 28cases(4.9%).
2) We observed a peak incidence of gastric ulcer in the 50?59 age group(26.3%). duodenal ulcer in the 30?39 age group(27.5%), respectively.
3) The ratio of males to females was 3.19: 1 in patient with Peptic ulcer 2.85: 1 in patients with gastric ulcer, 2.29: 1 in patients with duodenal ulcer. 2.29: 1 in patients with pyloric channel ulcer & 3 : 1 in patients with combined ulcer.
4) There were no seasonal vacations in the 570 Peptic ulcer patients, but the frequency of gastric & duodenal ulcer was slightly increased in Autumn.
5) The most prevalent site of gastric ulcer was lesser curvature of antrum and the most favorable site of duodenal ulcer was bulb(96.4%).
Of the bulb ulcer, most common site was lesser curvature region.
6) Hospitalization rate was 30-2% in peptic ulcer and the peak incidence of hospitalization in the 40?49 age group.
7) The patients with multiple ulcers were 103/570 cases(18.1%) in peptic ulcer, the frequency with multiple ulcers were 66/301 cases (21.9%) of the gastric ulcer group and 26/218 cases (11.9%) of the duodenal ulcer group.
8) In 35.5% of gastric ulcers & in 40.8% of the duodenal ulcers, the size of ulcer was within 1.0?1.9cm.
